Mercy
  • God requires that we show mercy-Micah 6:8 (KJV) He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

In this verse, we see that Jesus lived as an example to mankind.  He was good, just, merciful, and humble.  He requires that His children live in the same way.  He expects us to follow His example.

  • People who show mercy to others will be rewarded -Matthew 5:7 (KJV) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

When we show mercy to others, the LORD blesses us for it.  We will receive mercy when the time comes that they make a mistake, or sin in some way many times unknowingly.

  • We should imitate God's mercy -Luke 6:36 (KJV) Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

The same mercy that we ask of the Father should be extended to others.  If we want God to forgive us our sins and tresspasses, we should likewise forgive others.  He wants us to imitate His example.

  • Jesus is merciful -1 Timothy 1:2 (KJV) Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus is merciful to all.  Even as they tortured and crucified Him on the cross at Calvary, He asked mercy for them of the Father saying: Luke 23:34 (KJV) Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

  • Mercy is from God -2 Timothy 1:2 (KJV) To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Mercy is from God; He shows mercy throughout the Bible from beginning to end.  He is merciful in that He knows that man is fallible; He created us from the dust of the earth; man is fragile.  He has shown mercy from the beginning of creation even after the first man and woman sinned in the Garden of Eden.

I hope you enjoyed this short study and remember to show mercy to others fighting hard battles in this life.  May God continue to light the path for you today and always.  God bless you.
